On 15th December 2016 the first student leadership body of the African Science Academy was elected with Ibukunoluwa Aribilola, from Nigeria, coming out as the head girl. The body of prefects is made up of 6 girls who will be serving under various roles for the 2017 academic year.
They were first selected through nominations, after which they went through a vetting process with the ASA staff. The shortlisted nominees presented their manifestos to the rest of the student body and were asked questions on their ideas and suggestions for the school. After the manifestos were presented and questions answered, an election was held before students were appointed to the various positions. An induction service was organized on Sunday 15th January, where prefects officially took on their posts and were given badges as recognition. .
At African Science Academy, students do not only strive for academic excellence. As part of our young leaders program our newly elected prefects went through a rigorous selection process and have now been given many responsibilities. Students and staff at ASA look forward to working with the new student body – the first ever Prefects of ASA.
