#ASAhealthday2018

On Saturday the 3rd of February, African Science Academy in collaboration with K.P Medical Lab and Health Consultancy and SOS Cancer Screening Office Systems hosted a health screening programme at the school. The programme aimed at offering education and a better understanding of cervical and breast cancer to ASA girls and to the Tema Community women at large.

Every two minutes a woman dies of cervical cancer! #Save My Mother Campaign came about after the SOS Children International village in conjunction with Female Cancer Foundation realised the alarming rate at which women were dying of the fatal cancer. At the beginning of the programme the health workers taught us how cervical cancer develops, risks of cervical cancer and how it can be prevented. The session was very interactive and informative with the girls asking questions and contributing meaningfully to the discussion.

Afterwards the health team screened the girls and the women present. Cervical cancer screening was free of charge and Breast cancer screening was offered at a very affordable price. Along with the screening K.P Medical Lab and Health Consultancy was available doing blood tests including HIV test, blood group e.t.c.

Caring Community is a core value at African Science Academy and the girls with the assistance of the Health Matron Ms Anabella Boateng and staff made the day a success through offering help to the health team and playing warm welcoming guests to  community women and the Health Team.

We would also like to Thank our sponsors and supporters – Jollofpot, Mafori’s Creation and Philip.
