African Gifted Foundation Scholarship Programme

The African Gifted Foundation Scholarships Programme awards need-based scholarship funding to graduates of the African Science Academy to study an undergraduate degree at universities across the African continent. 

The maximum value of an African Gifted Foundation Scholarship is £5,000 to cover the duration of an undergraduate degree at an African university. The purpose of the scholarships is to cover the tuition fees and/or accommodation costs of an African Science Academy graduate’s undergraduate degree programme at an African University.

Who is eligible for the scholarships?

We will only accept applications from current and former students of the African Science Academy.

Candidate criteria:

Graduates of the African Science Academy who:

  • Have not received a full scholarship from another organisation or university
  • Have received an offer to study an undergraduate degree at an African university
  • Can demonstrate a financial need for the scholarship and could not otherwise attend university

Candidate Assessment:

  • Candidates will be assessed by need and academic merit by the AGF Scholarships Selection Panel, consisting of two AGF/AGFG board members and AGF’s Director of Programmes.
  • A-Level results, proof of a university place offer from an African university, a personal statement and other relevant information will be considered to assess the above criteria. 

Notifications of the outcome of your application:

All applicants will be notified by email by 4 September 2020.

Application procedure:

Step 1: Apply for an undergraduate programme at an African university before the scholarship deadline. Once you have received an approved application and an offer to an African university, you can apply for the AGF Scholarship Programme.

Step 2: Apply for the scholarship via the online application form, which will be available from 12 August  2020. All applications will close on 31 August 2020.

Please note, we will also take ad-hoc applications throughout the 2020/2021 academic year if you are not planning to attend university in September/October 2020 or have not yet secured a university place.
